South Korea AI Basic Act

South Korea’s AI Basic Act is a national framework for developing and using artificial intelligence. It combines support for AI adoption with governance requirements for areas such as transparency, safety, high-impact AI, and generative AI; the applicable duties depend on the system and legal framework.

Also known as AI Basic Act of South Korea.

Why it matters in practice

Organizations assessing AI activity connected with South Korea need to distinguish the Act’s requirements from internal policies and other laws. Legal interpretation may depend on the system and activity, so teams should check current sources rather than extrapolate from a general summary. This glossary avoids unverified scope claims or timelines.

Example

A company records a proposed AI use in South Korea and asks a local legal reviewer which parts of the Act warrant closer analysis.
