AI Compliance

AI compliance is the work of identifying and meeting legal, contractual, and internal requirements that apply to an artificial intelligence system. It combines scoping, evidence, controls, and review; it is not a single certification or a synonym for ethical or technically reliable model behavior.

Why it matters in practice

Requirements can differ by system purpose, organization, data, and operating environment, so teams need to map the relevant obligations before selecting controls. Keeping decisions and evidence together makes review more tractable as systems change. A checklist can support this work, but cannot establish compliance without context and qualified assessment.

Example

A project team maps its system’s intended use to the requirements selected by counsel, records control owners, and keeps evidence with the release review.

Educational note

This definition is general information, not legal advice. It may omit facts that matter to a specific situation and does not establish or guarantee compliance.
