AI Risk Management

AI risk management is the repeated process of identifying, analyzing, treating, and monitoring risks associated with an artificial intelligence system. It considers the system’s intended use and context, and assigns decisions to people with authority to accept, reduce, transfer, or avoid a risk.

Also known as AI RM.

Why it matters in practice

Risks may arise from data, model behavior, security, human reliance, or the way a system is integrated into a workflow. A documented process helps teams compare concerns, choose controls, and revisit decisions when evidence changes. Risk management is context-specific and does not promise that all uncertainty or harm can be eliminated.

Example

A team records a model’s failure scenarios, assigns owners to mitigations, and schedules review when the surrounding workflow changes.
