Regulation & risk

EU AI Act

The EU AI Act is a European Union regulation establishing a legal framework for artificial intelligence systems. It uses a risk-based structure and addresses topics such as system categories, responsibilities, and governance; its application depends on the relevant legal provisions and facts.

Also known as European Union Artificial Intelligence Act, AI Act.

Why it matters in practice

Organizations use the Act to frame questions about AI systems connected with the European Union. Classification and legal obligations cannot be inferred from a model name alone, and the legal text should be consulted for current interpretation. This entry is a general identifier, not an assessment of a product or provider.

Example

A project owner records a system’s intended purpose and asks a qualified reviewer to determine which parts of the Act need analysis.
