Cookie Consent

Cookie consent is a person’s choice about the placement or use of cookies and similar technologies, where consent is the applicable basis for that activity. A consent interface communicates choices, while the actual legal and technical requirements depend on the technology, purpose, and jurisdiction.

Also known as consent for cookies.

Why it matters in practice

Consent controls should correspond to what scripts and storage mechanisms actually do. If a preference is collected but optional technologies continue to run, the interface and system behavior diverge. Teams should test the complete page lifecycle and distinguish necessary storage from optional purposes under the rules relevant to their service.

Example

A visitor declines optional measurement, and a test confirms that the corresponding non-essential tag does not start on the next page.
