Privacy & data

Data Privacy

Data privacy concerns how information about people is collected, used, shared, stored, and governed. It includes people’s interests and choices, organizational responsibilities, and the controls that shape data processing in a specific context.

Also known as information privacy.

Why it matters in practice

Privacy work spans product design, data operations, security, policy, and legal interpretation. A single tool or notice cannot address every question because appropriate handling depends on what information is involved and why. Teams often use data maps and review processes to make those decisions understandable and repeatable.

Example

A product team identifies what account information a feature needs, explains the purpose, and limits access to the service roles that support it.

Educational note

This definition is general information, not legal advice. It may omit facts that matter to a specific situation and does not establish or guarantee compliance.
