CPRA (California Privacy Rights Act)

The California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) is a California statute that amended and expanded the state’s consumer privacy framework. It is commonly discussed with the CCPA because the two are connected; the applicable requirements should be read in the current California legal context.

Also known as CPRA.

Why it matters in practice

The CPRA is not a separate name for every California privacy obligation. Organizations assessing a practice need to consider the statutory text, regulations, relevant definitions, and whether the provisions apply to their activity. This summary identifies the law at a high level and is not legal advice or a compliance assessment.

Example

A privacy reviewer checks whether a proposed data-sharing change affects the organization’s analysis of the California privacy framework.
