CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act)

The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) is a California privacy law concerning certain businesses’ handling of personal information and consumer privacy rights. The law has been amended, and its application depends on definitions, thresholds, exceptions, and the facts of a particular activity.

Also known as CCPA.

Why it matters in practice

The CCPA is often considered when organizations map data practices involving California consumers. A useful review distinguishes the law’s text, implementing rules, and related California privacy requirements rather than treating the acronym as a complete compliance checklist. This entry is educational and does not determine coverage or legal obligations.

Example

A product team inventories categories of information collected through an account flow and asks counsel to evaluate the relevant California requirements.

Educational note

This definition is general information, not legal advice. It may omit facts that matter to a specific situation and does not establish or guarantee compliance.
