AI Impact Assessment (AIIA)

An AI impact assessment examines the expected effects of an artificial intelligence system on people, organizations, and the surrounding environment. It records the intended use, affected stakeholders, likely benefits and harms, uncertainty, and options for reducing or monitoring identified impacts.

Also known as AIIA, AI impact assessment.

Why it matters in practice

Impact assessment helps teams bring technical, operational, and human consequences into a decision before a system is widely used. Its scope and method should match the system and decision being reviewed. It is distinct from a privacy-only assessment and should not be treated as a substitute for legal analysis.

Example

A service team maps who may be affected by automated ticket prioritization, then documents possible delays and a way for staff to correct a bad ranking.
