AI DPIA

An AI DPIA is a data protection impact assessment that examines how a proposed artificial intelligence use may affect people’s privacy. It describes the personal-data processing, identifies relevant risks, and records safeguards and decisions in the format required by the organization’s applicable process.

Also known as AI data protection impact assessment.

Why it matters in practice

AI projects can combine new data sources, inference, and automated decisions, making it important to consider privacy during design rather than after deployment. A DPIA is scoped to the actual processing and should be revisited when that processing materially changes. The term does not mean every AI project legally requires a DPIA.

Example

A team documents which personal data enters a support classifier, who can see its output, and what review is available when the result affects a person.
