Australian Privacy Principles (APPs)

The Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) are the principles in the Australian Privacy Act that set out a framework for handling personal information. They address areas such as collection, use, disclosure, data quality, security, access, and transparency for entities to which they apply.

Also known as APPs, Australian Privacy Principles.

Why it matters in practice

The APPs offer a useful structure for reviewing privacy practices, but applying a principle requires understanding the data flow and legal context. An organization should not assume the same analysis covers every entity or activity. The principles are related to, but not interchangeable with, the full Australian Privacy Act.

Example

A team reviews how an intake form explains collection and how stored information is protected, then records questions for a qualified legal review.
