AI governance

Responsible AI

Responsible AI is an approach to designing, developing, and using artificial intelligence with attention to people, risks, accountability, and the intended purpose. It is a broad organizational concept rather than one technical standard or a guarantee about system outcomes.

Also known as RAI.

Why it matters in practice

Organizations translate responsible-AI principles into concrete decisions about data, evaluation, human oversight, transparency, and operation. Different values can conflict, so teams should explain how they set priorities and review results. A policy statement without accountable owners and evidence may not change the way a system is used.

Example

A product review records who may be affected by an automated summary and what human check occurs before it is shared.
