AI Model Inventory

An AI model inventory is a maintained record of artificial intelligence models an organization develops, acquires, or uses. Useful records identify a model, its owner, intended purpose, dependencies, lifecycle state, and the evidence or reviews associated with that use.

Also known as model inventory.

Why it matters in practice

A reliable inventory helps teams discover overlapping systems, locate accountable owners, and prioritize review. It also provides a starting point for change tracking and incident response. Inventory fields should reflect actual governance needs; a list of model names alone does not describe how the systems affect operations or people.

Example

A security team links a text-classification model to its owning service, data flow, deployment environment, and review contact.
